5 Tips For New Money Makers

For some strange reason there seems to be an absolute plethora of blogs trying to start and record their own cash quest this month. I can judge this by the amount of link exchange requests that I’ve received recently - LOTS! I visit every blog that asks for a link exchange and it seems that most of them have been started in the month of March. Is there a reason for this? It’s going to be very interesting to see how some of them do!

Unfortunately, the majority that I’ve visited have been less than spectacular, so I’ve got a few pieces of advice for those trying to start their own successful money making mission:

  • Get a unique look - the majority are hosted on the wonderful and free Blogger platform. However, the use of their templates leaves most of the sites looking the same and just like any other blog - not too inspiring. Of course quality content is the most important aspect for a new blog, but it doesn’t take long to design and implement an original header graphic that will set you apart from the rest. Why not try and change the template’s color scheme a little. It’s the very least you should do!
  • Get some content - before you start asking for link exchanges and promoting your site, you really need to have something there for when people visit. One post isn’t enough! You don’t need to start promoting your site a minute after the first post. Why not spend a week writing content for your new visitors before you start inviting them? If I visit a site with one or two posts, there’s pretty much zero chance of me doing a link exchange or even visiting it again. I usually look for at least ten posts. Being added to my ‘Blogroll’ will send my readers to your site - I don’t want to disappoint them!
  • Give some promotion love - simply saying, “hi! can we do a link exchange?” doesn’t really motivate anyone to check out your site and possibly link to it. Try telling the webmaster a little about your site and why they should do a link exchange with you. If you really want to increase your chances of success, try linking to the site before you ask for an exchange. Many webmasters will feel obliged to complete the exchange as you’ve already linked to their site!
  • Get unique - Ok. So you’ve got a “make money online” blog. Cool! Welcome to the world I love! How is your blog different from the other blogs doing the same thing? Why should someone visit your blog instead of the thousands of others doing the same thing? It can be a difficult question to answer, but it’s not hard to be unique - just be yourself! Write honestly and openly and you’ll set yourself apart from the other money makers in no time.
  • Get real - “Hi this is my first post on my blog trying to make money online. So far I haven’t made anything. If you buy this $96 e-book (aff) you can make millions online like the author“. Huh??? If it really made millions, you’d have millions!! Be honest - your readers can spot BS from the other side of the world (and often do!).

And perhaps the most important tip of all…..visit Cash Quests!

Oh another good post Kumiko! I definitely enjoy following your blog.

I can’t wait to get out some promotional love, like run contests where people can get cool gizmos! One day and hopefully soon.

And I hope my site’s look is unique enough since it’s custom built by me :)

‘Get Real’ - I must say this is one that annoys me as well. I so dislike it when people are selling such info but haven’t made a penny/cent themselves.

Well aren’t you the popular girl in school? I don’t every get any link exchange requests. I guess I have some growing to do.

I’m interested in a link exchange. Would I be worthy? You already linked to me with the “guess my pagerank” post or are you talking about a permanent link in the sidebar?

I agree with you. This make money online thing is going crazy and I think it will only get worse. Oh well, if some good blogs come out of it and it inspires some of the true writers out there, it will be worth it.

I personally use mine as a diary of thoughts I have during the weird hours of the day/night. The making money thing does fall into it as well, but more as an extra experiment.

I agree with the unique look and the unique content points the most. Get stuff on your blogs and make it worth reading. It doesn’t have to be a work of art, just interesting.

James - I wouldn’t say that I’ve achieved success but what I have achieved has come purely through being honest and open about what I do and not being afraid of people who may disagree with what I say.

Neil - I’m talking about links in the sidebar. Sorry, I don’t remember your site. Send me the link and I’ll check it out.

The “Get Real” part reminded me of an article I read about the music industry. It’s a producer’s suggestion to new rappers. In the article, he said, don’t write about your bling-blings, your BMWs, and your hoes. The big time rappers rap about them because they have them, but you don’t. Don’t try to be somebody else.

I think the same principle applies here.

Ok I admit , Im one fo the guiltly ones :-) At least Ive help inspire a post though!
I certainly dont make out on my blog though that I am any expert - I point out that im starting and dont know what im doing! Deffo making some progress I feel but you quickly learn to be even more impressed with how quickly Kumiko has gained some degree of success. Im getting some money in already which is encouraging but I do put quite a bit of this down to stuff ive read on this site, plus a couple of others. A big thanks - hopefully my blog will help others in the future.

Kumiko, this is off-topic, but your FeedBurner widget says you now have over 100 readers. Congratulations! I hope to reach that milestone myself some day.

Mike - Thanks. It’s been happening a lot lately but I’ve taken steps to deal with it.

Like Garrett said… congrats on cracking the 100 mark!

“If you really want to increase your chances of success, try linking to the site before you ask for an exchange. Many webmasters will feel obliged to complete the exchange as you’ve already linked to their site!”

Actually.. that’s what I really hate because some bloggers do that before emailing me for a trade.

I don’t just link to everyone and making me feel obliged just makes the whole process more painful. :)

by Maki

Maki - I don’t really like it either…but I think it really does increase your chances of success. I guess it just depends which end your on.

Guilty as charged! The unique look is sorted, but I’m still battling with the whole content-and-unique-angle thing. But at least I’ve had the sense not to try promoting it yet!

I don’t exactly remember how I got to your blog, but thank God I did. You have some very interesting posts and you seem to know what you are doing. I was wondering, how did you start out? Did you teach yourself HTML and all that website lingo? I’ll be checking in once in a while to read more and learn more. Good job!

Nice Informational post kumiko!

I’ve to add that if one want to link exchange, do it with related sites. Not just any sites.

Cheers!
