Buy A Wiki Or Buy A Pixel At Wikillionaire

It all started with the MillionDollarHomepage which successfully sold one million lifetime pixels on the site for a dollar each. Not long ago, the MillionDollarWiki entered the scene and is attempting to sell 10,000 pages on the site for $100 each. Most recently, it was the MillionEuroWiki’s turn to get a piece of the action by taking the MillionDollarWiki concept and adding some awesome marketing techniques to create a money maker.

What do you get when you take the best bits of each site and combine them into one?

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing Wikillionaire.

The best of both worlds

Created by Eugene Gregorio from Canada, Wikillionaire really does take a little bit from all it’s ancestors and combine them into one site. The site is virtually divided into two sections where you can choose to either purchase a pixel on the shared top half of the site or get your own page that resides in your own exclusive bottom half section.

You can purchase your own dedicated lifetime wiki page on the site for $80 and you’re free to edit the page however you like. Promote your business, review an affiliate program or put up Adsense – the choice is yours.

Alternatively, you can purchase a pixel for $1 and you get it for three months. That’s right….it’s rent-a-pixel! At the end of the three months, you can either renew your subscription or the pixel will be sold to someone else. At just a dollar per pixel, you’d only need around five hits over three months to make it worthwhile renewing.

Be in the first 10 people to buy a page and you get a page for just $50 with a free pixel (for three months).

Added bonuses

Borrowing a marketing idea from the Million Euro Wiki, an iPod Touch will be given away “for every 25 members” at Wikillionaire. There aren’t any further details on the site, but if becoming a member means buying a pixel, then a 1 in 25 chance is a bargain for just one dollar.

If that’s the case, an evil idea would be to purchase 25 pixels under 25 different aliases and get the iPod Touch that way. But $25 for an iPod Touch? Somehow I think you need to purchase a page to be in with a chance.

If you want to get your hands on some free pixels, there is also a promotion at the moment where you can get $25 worth of free pixels for three months just by writing a blog post about Wikillionaire. Actually, the site says you get 50×50 pixels but that means $2,500 worth of pixels, right? I think it’s more likely that you just get the 25 pixels.

Is a page on this site worth $80?

The site has just launched and so far it looks like there are still a few things that need to be worked on.

For a start, the center of the main page looks like it was designed to highlight purchased pages but so far it is just showing random photos which it makes the homepage look a little unprofessional. Hopefully, once pages are added here this area will be of more value.

To get more information about the site, I tried to visit the blog but that just gave me an error page and the forum hasn’t had a single post in it yet. When I tried to get more info about the iPod Touch giveaway, I was given the Apple homepage which didn’t really help me out either. Furthermore, when I tried to get more information about how to make money from Wikillionaire, all that I could find was:

Your wiki can help you earn more money using sponsor ads from Google Adsense, Yahoo Publisher. Your pixel on the hand can help generate even more traffic, sending thousands of visitors to your page. More traffic means more money in your pocket.

Apart from the obvious need for a copywriter, I don’t think that even the MillionDollarHomepage has sent thousands of visitors via a single pixel so that’s a pretty big claim. Furthermore, you’d probably struggle to get your money back just through Adsense or YPN alone.

On top of all that, there isn’t any mention on whether you can sell your page at a later date for a profit like I did with my MillionEuroWiki auction.

The real value test

All these “buy a page” and “buy a wiki” sites are essentially the same and the only reason that some are money makers while others are not is because some are run by great marketers who know how to promote the site wisely.

A new site like Wikillionaire isn’t going to get any traffic from search engines and the only way people will see your pages/pixels is if the owner of the site is actively pushing traffic to it.

With regard to Wikillionaire – I’m not confident that it’s being marketed well.

For a start, the site lacks an image or logo to define it. There isn’t even a header on the site that I can put in this review so that the “brand” will stick in your mind. I’m all about giving people value, so here’s a free original header for them that I made in exactly 6m43s:

wikimine2.jpg

Not a work of art, but more memorable than blank space.

So far the site has sold just one pixel and two pages which gives it a very empty feel. It wouldn’t hurt the owner to seed a few pages with his own content and make it look like the site is active and that many people are purchasing pages. As it is now, there’s a real “if others aren’t buying pages, it can’t be of value” impression on the site.

I’m also not incredibly excited about the idea of renting a pixel for three months. Pixels can be bought for a lifetime elsewhere and a monthly rental means that even if the site sells out of pixels, in three months it could be back to being empty space again. Not a great marketing strategy.

On top of all of that, there just wasn’t enough information on the site explaining the benefits of purchasing a page and how your money was going to be put to work promoting the site.

How the site will be marketed externally

I wasn’t confident that Wikillionaire was being marketed well, so to be fair I contacted the owner to ask his plans for promoting the site. He replied with:

I’ve arranged for bloggers to review the site, free and paid ones.
I’m also using Facebook Flyers to promote the site to get the words out.
All Press Releases will and should be listed here:

http://www.wikillionaire.com/Wikillionaire:PressRelease

Well, I went to that link and they’re not really press releases but links to quite minor blog and forum postings about Wikillionaire.

As a CashQuests reader, you’re smart enough to know whether paying $80 for a page on a site where the marketing strategy is just three lines long represents good value or not.

The other sites are just better

I tried to hard to find some more positive points in Wikillionaire but all I can say is that at least there are still valuable keywords available.

The fact is that is doesn’t seem logical to pay $80 for a page on Wikillionaire when for just $10 more you can get a page on a site like the MillionEuroWiki that is being written about by top bloggers, has had $500 press releases published and gives you access to a $30 affiliate program.

For $80 you could also get a permanent review on CashQuests that will probably send you more traffic than Wikillionaire ever will.

But at least the valuable keywords are still available.

Seems its updated:

“For every 25 wiki buyers, 1 will win a revolutionary iPod touch by Apple. ”

A well written review.

Genius! I love seeing the creativity the web fosters. Thanks for brining it to my attention.

As a buyer of 2 reviews on CashQuests I have to say they are great value and buying one would be a much smarter investment than Wikillionaire. Just about the only better investment would be a $45 review on Blogging Fingers

I have to admit, I skipped most of this post and read the conclusion. You could spend a fortune buying pages on all these sites, it’s getting boring now :)

Kumiko and everyone.

First, I would like to thank everyone for visiting Wikillionaire and giving me a chance to market and promote this site to the public.

I’m glad to announce to all the each page now cost $25.00 and this comes with a free pixel. Also, I am no longer offering Apple touch but I am offering Apple iMac! This is a great opportunity for everyone to take advantage of while premium words are still available.

I’m also doing my best to promote and market the site. I’m arranging with several PRs and known blogs to review the site and get additional exposure to the site. I’m also looking for SEO specialist in Vancouver to help us promote the site as I truly believe we have something great and valuable for everyone at Wikillionaire.

Again, I invite everyone to visit the site again, browse around and ask questions before signing up.

Thank you and hope to see you all there.

Regards,
Eugene, wikillionaire.com

Wow…that really sounds really good. Very good, in fact, super good, maybe, too good?

25 x 25 = 625…doesn’t add up?

Sorry for confusing you.
If you have not gone to the site lately, I encourage you to do so…as we’ve changed the site completely! We are no longer offering the ipod touch but we are offering an iMac, info can be found here http://www.wikillionaire.com/Wikillionaire:Apple
