Capitalizing on Pop Culture

There have been stories floating around recently about a big surge in hamburger phone sales since the release of the movie Juno.

These sales have skyrocketed particularly on eBay. It makes sense though doesn’t it? A huge oscar nominated hit movie inspires the demand for related novelty gifts? This looks like a surefire way to make money online to me.

I don’t just mean by selling hamburger phones. I mean by looking for trends in popular items and capitalizing on demand by selling them on eBay.

If you’re good enough you can create the demand yourself by being the first to think of selling a particular item. Like this SmallBusinessNewz article says, look for pop culture phenomenons and use them to attract business.

Another example of this that has been cited by several articles on the subject is the “Vote for Pedro” merchandise that was inspired by the popular movie Napoleon Dynamite.

Cafepress is another ideal place to sell items based on pop culture phenomenons. Just look at all the Paris Hilton apparel that can be found there.

Pop culture means “poupular” culture. Taking advantage of popularity is bound to get you some sales.
