It seems that whenever a popular blog has a guest post, there are cries in the comments of “Hey! When are you going to ask me to guest blog?” and “I’ll do a guest post if you want“. Having visited some of the sites of the people who wrote these comments, I probably wouldn’t even let them write my shopping list so they can forget about ever appearing on Cash Quests!

The trick to getting guest-blogging positions is not to wait to be asked and cry about your desperation in the comments, but to take the initiative and start writing some posts!

Make it easy

When you email someone with a “I would like to do a guest post on your site” message, you’re requiring that they visit your site to check out your material and then reply with the “OK” for you to start writing. That’s quite a lot of work for a busy blogger, so why not take away the hard work and simply send them a post with permission to publish it if they want?

Give them pre-packaged “ready-to-go” content and you’ll quickly find your name appearing on a number of top blogs very quickly!

The proof is in the posts

I had recently seen a number of guest posts written by Matt Jones from Blogging Fingers on the popular blogs of Problogger, John Chow and Performancing. It was strange to see all these guest posts by the same person in a short time frame so I formulated the theory that Matt had written these posts specifically for the blogs and then sent them to the respective bloggers. I contacted Matt to confirm my theory, and he let me know that I was correct!

By spending a bit of time writing posts for other people, Matt has dramatically increased the visibility of his new site and also received backlinks from blogs with a very high Google Pagerank.

Everybody needs content

The key to this concept is that a lot of the popular bloggers often post 3-4 times per day. That creates a desperate need for fresh content and if you can provide a quality post that’s ready to go and just needs to be pasted on to their site, there’s a very good chance of your post being published!

So instead of writing about how you want to do a guest post - just write one!
