How Much Money Does ProBlogger Make From Adsense? You’ll Cry!
Want to know how well your Adsense earnings compare to a pro?
While he’s never given his true earnings for reasons that I respect, nestled right at the bottom of the six-figure blogger Darren Rowse’s site Problogger is a little link that takes you to his Sitemeter traffic statistics. While it’s probably missed or dismissd by most visitors, I think it’s fantastic base for some money making analysis:

May was a pretty rocking month with 272,121 visitors! Even June has been fantastic despite a large portion of the posts being guest-blogged.
Adsense guesstimations
While the site isn’t heavily monetized by Adsense and follows the “less pays more” philosophy, as a blogging guru I’m going to estimate the Adsense on his site receives a reasonable 3% click-through-rate. While this number is a rough estimate, it’s based upon what appears to be an average rate that I’ve calculated through my communications with Adsense publishers and reported online earnings from other bloggers.
As a respected site that’s well out of the Google Sandbox and probably labeled by Google’s algorithm as “trusted”, I’m also going to estimate that the average earning per click is around the $0.20 mark. I’m probably being a bit conservative with these numbers, but I’d rather calculate a minimum earning rather than a maximum.
Then it’s just maths:
272,121 x 3% x $0.20 = $1632 earned in May
That’s a nice bit of pocket change!
It’s loose change…for him!
While I’ve guesstimated this to be the earnings from the Problogger site in May, we have to keep in mind that this is only Adsense earnings and that other advertising and affiliate products are definitely bringing in a lot more money. When you consider that John Chow’s Adsense earnings only constitute about 12% of his total blog earnings, it’s easy to come to the conclusion that the Problogger site easily brings in at least $15,000 per month.
There’s money online
Here’s the part that will you make cry. While I’ve guesstimated that Darren Rowse is bringing in at least $15,000 (and probably much more) from the Problogger site alone, you have to remember that he works on over 20 other blogs and is involved in a number of other online projects.
There’s your six-figure blogger right there and I’d go so far as to say that it’s six figures per month!
Can you spare a dollar Mr Rowse?
I’ll disclose that a big fan of Darren Rowse and I’m proud to have had him visit this site on a number of occasions. While this is nothing more than a rough guesstimation based upon information that he has made public, I think it’s quite an interesting analysis of a blogging professional’s Adsense earnings.
It has definitely given me inspiration to continue on my divine Cash Quest!!

hey well guessed. you would not belive but Actually i was also reaserching the same topic, but i was not in perticular with Darren Rowse. I am doing the reaserch on how these big players earn (ways of earning) and how much adsense contribute toward their earnings.
But JohnTP is different , normally he discloses all his earnings. yet another Nice post.

Oh yeah, I bet Darren is doing great! Great post… it shows the money-power of blogging!

Well, blog on make money online topic will be making less adsense money compare to other topic. Since most of the affiliate or ecommerce markerter in this areas is well aware to the tactic how to pay $0.01 for per click strategies, they are the pro in per per click. And trying to earn easy money from them is not easy!
You might be better off if you go after big marketing budget areas like auto, investment, real estate, travel and wealth. Simple rule is the more wealthy of the reader, the money money you can monetize. Anyway, yet i blog about make money online is because I”m passion about the topic and i believe in “law of attraction”. So really we have a lot of blogger that make a lot of money that nobody know since they don’t blog about how much money they make

I think another factor is how competitive the niche is. The competition drives the price up.

What a clever idea for a post, you money-crazed minx, you!
I wonder if you’ve guesstimated a bit on the high side, though. Hasn’t Darren repeatedly mentioned that PB isn’t a big earner for him? I seem to remember that some time ago, when he used to disclose his earnings, he was making about 15,000 per month *overall*.
In addition to the points Ken mentioned, the PB readership is likely to be quite web-savvy (and competitive!), the kind of readers who aren’t likely to click ads, or who will type in the URL rather than clicking. The people who comment there seem to be a nice bunch who wouldn’t begrudge him a click, but the vast majority of readers are lurkers.
I hope you’ve guessed correctly, though. Darren seems to be a straight-up, good guy, and he contributes a lot with his blog. He deserves to be paid well for his hard work.

He’d get a lot of Google traffic that would be clicking away on his site.

Your site is looking good Kumiko! Keep up the great work! I always keep a watch out on details that you’ve changed on your site. I don’t understand why you took out the information on the side bar of how much you make. And I’m even more curious now that you’ve taken out most advertisements. Well, with your super sites, you’re making $240, and when 5 people put up banners, you’ll be making $440 per month not including the reviews you do.
I was reading your entries from my regular browser “Safari” and anywhere I clicked, or even if I wanted to type in a comment, it would automatically link me to your site, refreshing and erasing everything I tried to type. Maybe you should take a look at that. I switched over to Firefox to read your blog and everything is fine.
Well, good luck with everything. I’m sure in time and the hard work you put into your blog, you’ll be at the top with fine people such as problogger. I started me blog because of you, and now I think I will end my blog and start a brand new one because of you. I feel like my marketing aspect of my site isn’t working. After seeing how you’ve tweaked yours, I am looking forward to starting a new one.
But before I drop my site and start a new one, I want to know what you think. Do you think I should continue with my original site and tweak it completely, or should I go ahead and build a brand new blog with a new theme?
Thanks Kumiko, and take care.
by Andy Dang
There are a lot of factors to consider including how you would tweak it and what the theme of the new site would be.

There’s no way he earns six figures per month. If he did, he’d have easily bought his problogger.com domain much earlier on.
Problogger.com sells for less than $7000
In fact, going by the fact that he won’t spend $7000 for his own dot com domain, I’d be surprised if he earns more than $20,000 / $30,000 a month.

doh. missed a link:
Problogger.com sells for less than $7000
by Brilliances
What if the domain is only worth around $7000? He only has to pay more than the next highest bidder anyway.
by Kumiko
I think you missed this quote from Darren:
“So the GoDaddy auction took a week and ended a couple of weeks back. The price got too high for my liking (it was over $7000 USD) and someone else got the right to buy it if the renewal didn’t happen.”

That just means he won’t pay more than what he think it’s worth to him. After all, the domain would only be used to redirect to his existing site so he probably wouldn’t see an increase in traffic or earnings.

Kumiko-san, I think you missed acouple of essential points.
1. Darren himself has stated he makes much less that $15k per month from AdSense, on _all_ his blogs.
2. You click through estimation is (IMO) way high for a problogger niche type blog becuase of the number of Darren’s visitors who not only seldom click but pride themselves on not clicking.
3. Darren has a _number_ of other blogs some of which assuredly make more money from AdSense than does problogger.net
4. Darren has frquently posted as to the fact AdSense is _not_ his big earner overall … Chitika and (suprise to me) Amazon are his big money sources. He just did anic epost on Amazon which ha smade me re-evalaute what I have been doing/not doing with the “Big A”.
But so much for the negatives, overall I find your post extremely thought provoking and informative. The difference between Darren and most of the rest of us? Darren does not use the phrase “If Only”. Read _any_ blog about making money on line and the comments will be peppered with this sad refrain … “Of Only”. My suggestion to all who use it? Replace it with the words, “I Will”.

As I said, it’s just a guesstimate, but that $15k was total for problogger.net and not just from adsense. I think the 3% is maybe a little high too but John Chow publishes his exact traffic and Adsense earnings and based on a $0.20 per click earning he’s getting about a 4% CTR.

Even if your estimates are half right, its a hell of lot of lose change. I wouldn’t mind making a tenth of half.
