make money online

Magazine Style Wordpress Themes

I’m a firm believer that magazine style wordpress themes represent the future of monetized blogging. Running magazine style wordpress themes on your blogs just gives you a lot more space to play with and allows you to do things that you just can’t do with the usual blog layout.

Traditionally, blogs have had their latest post as the main attraction when you visit them - whether it’s a good post or not! With magazine style wordpress themes you can highlight your landmark content at the top of the page or draw attention to posts that you have written which make money through affiliate deals.

Yeah, they’re money makers

I’ve recently been able to experience the benefits of a quasi-magazine theme on CashQuests where some “gems from the past” were highlighted in the Featured Posts section and subsequently received new life due to some great StumbleUpon traffic.

However, it’s not only posts that can be highlighted as most magazine style wordpress themes have great pieces of ad space built into them which can be easily used to help you make money online.

Make a theme, make money online

Although magazine style wordpress themes are fantastic, the problem is that there just aren’t enough good ones around. I’ve been searching for some decent ones for about a month now and have only found about three which I would actually use on a site.

Most are either too afraid to step away from the “blog” design or take the magazine style concept too far and become too cluttered.

If you have experience in design and making wordpress themes, there is a lot of money to be made if you can make great magazine style wordpress themes.

Is this magazine style wordpress theme the best?

While searching for a magazine style wordpress theme, I came across the Revolution Magazine Theme by Brian Gardner and instantly fell in love with it:

It’s a beautiful design, everything is in the right place and the video section is a very cool concept in this age of “videoblogging”.

As it is designed to be used as a magazine, it would probably only be suited to bloggers who update multiple times per day or frequently write authoritative content. However, it remains one of the best wordpress themes that I’ve ever seen.

I told you they were money makers

The theme isn’t free, but in my mind the $99.95 price is a bargain if you’re serious about making money blogging. The theme just has that “this isn’t another crap blog” factor when making a first impression that makes it worth a lot more.

The only reason that I haven’t bought the Revolution Magazine theme myself is that I’m happy with the current theme on CashQuests and don’t feel the need to change. If I decide to change themes again, this is the one I’ll go for.

The icing on the cake would be for it to have an affiliate program and Brian to send me a free copy so I can fully test it out

That’s actually is pretty nice. Additionally, I’ve just come across a video news affiliate program that would work great in that video space. Unfortunately, I’m still on the ol’ blogspot, so can’t use wordpress themes. Maybe I can try to come up with something using the widgets.

Yeah im a big fan of this theme. It would suit a lot of blogs.

As someone who is currently running a theme based on Brian’s revolution theme, I can assure you all that the level of support pre and post sale is excellent

How about the other 2 good ones you mentioned? Anything free?

$99.95 for a theme that isn’t even unique? I don’t think so. You can get your own designed in PSD and coded for that price.

Is this a sponsored post by the way?

by Tom

It’s not a sponsored post.

Kumiko, you’re right. That is one of the best magazine styled Wordpress themes ever. I’ve not really hunted for them, but that is definitely the best one I’ve laid eyes on yet. I think the price is a steal, too!

I’m not sure if my blog would work out going magazine styled just yet but I might make one in the future that would work out that way. I’m thinking of starting a celebrity blog, actually. :)

Great post, and great discussion so far - thanks for the comments regarding the themes, and I will back up the comment that this is NOT a paid post.

As for the affiliate program, I was waiting until I possibly moved from Payloadz to eJunkie to offer that, since eJunkie has a better setup for it. Then I was planning on making an announcement, etc about it all!

I was looking at Brian Gardners site after i come across his Revolution Theme and he has a keen eye for design detail. The price on “Revolution” is a bit steep for my budget, but i’m in love with it too.
