When I look back on the early successes of Cash Quests, one site comes to mind that was instrumental in building the site’s readership base. While relatively unknown, this site had the ability to create Digg-like spikes in my traffic and send hundreds of targeted readers to Cash Quests in a matter of minutes. How I baited myLot

For me, becoming involved in the myLot world was never about being “paid to disuss” or becoming part of a community. It was all about recruiting Cash Quests readers!

The simple logic was:

• Cash Quests is about making money online.
• myLot users want to make money online.
• myLot users who post in the “make money online” category really want to make money online.
• Dropping links to Cash Quests on myLot will result in valuable, targeted visitors coming to Cash Quests.

Did it work? Oooooh, yeah! All I had to do was create an identity not related to Cash Quests and then start a discussion in the “make money online” category that talked about a monetization concept and use one of my own posts as a frame of reference.

For example:

“What do myLot users think about using Bidvertiser as a monetization option on a site? Cash Quests has just started using it and they’re going to follow how much money they make with it. Has anybody had any experience using it? How much money did you make? I heard that some people have made thousands!”

The result was that just minutes after starting a discussion, I could log into my tracking software and see a flood of traffic from myLot as users came over to check it out. The fact that users are being paid to discuss means that most decent discussions receive quite a number of responses. One discussion that I started received over 300 responses!

Even better is that the post remains in the system so that if somebody searches for a keyword contained in your discussion, the link will come up and provide you with continual traffic.

Although I haven’t used myLot for about four months, I still get traffic from them!

It’ll work for you too

Despite my main activities being in the “make money” category, the technique worked well in other categories too. Writing a post about how to make money with Paris Hilton could easily have been discussed in the ‘celebrity‘, ‘paris hilton‘ and ‘scandal‘ categories.

It doesn’t matter what topic your site is, myLot provides an easy way to find a whole bunch of targeted web users who are ready and willing to discuss and visit your site. Although Cash Quests has now reached the level where traffic comes from even larger sources, myLot was definitely crucial in jump-starting the site’s success!
