Meet The Man Behind Two Big Name Blogs

One name that has attracted a lot of attention lately is Nate Whitehill. Before Nate went on to redesign John Chow dot Com (and now ShoeMoney too), most people didn’t know who he was. After all, with millions of blogs on the Internet, it’s pretty hard to get people to look your way. Well, Nate has done it and now he wants all eyes focused on his blog, and — perhaps more importantly to him — his new Unique Blog Designs business, the company behind John Chow’s new look.

My, This Looks Familiar

When you hit up Nate Whitehill dot Com, you’ll immediately recognize that the core layout is very similar to John Chow dot Com. Well, there are definite differences to be sure, but with the popular and recent articles featured near the top, along with a sign-up form for the free newsletters, the similarities are unmistakable. Nate has gone with a considerably narrower blog layout, but that’s because his Wordpress theme isn’t being optimized for advertising; it’s being optimized for, well, reading.

The main header image depicts a fork in the road. One looks much more paved and conventional, whereas the other looks more rural and less developed. Nate feels that this defines what his blog is all about, because it provides tips and advice to people who are at a crossroads, so to speak, looking for a direction or an answer for their online businesses. This image is profound and attractive.

Below this and the three text boxes is a standard two-column layout. Sponsor buttons feature prominently in the sidebar, followed by featured links, just like John Chow dot Com, but on a smaller scale. This layout gives prime monitor real estate to paid sponsors without taking away from the user experience. Great job, Nate!

Banner-Rama!

One area that you really have to give credit to Nate is aesthetics. He’s clearly a very visual person, because while it’s far from overwhelming, Mr. Whitehill has integrated a fair bit of graphics on his blog. For example, when you go and read his post on 23 things I’ve learned after 7 months and 500 RSS subscribers, the first image to greet you is a vibrant banner with a toucan and the title of the post. In fact, most of his posts have customized banners, including the top 5 reasons most blogs don’t last and how blogging has changed my life.

Some banners are more attractive than others, but most are worthy of being the header image on any other blog. They’re stylistic, high contrast, and absolutely engaging. And that’s before you even get to any of the content. Clearly, Nate Whitehill knows how to grab your attention (and keep it).

Nate Whitehill dot Com is but just one of Nate’s websites. It serves as a personal blog, as well as a place where he can dispel advice on making money online and web development. To really get to know about Nate, you should have a look at his businesses.

We all know about Unique Blog Designs and Nate’s ability to produce some utterly fantastic and exclusive Wordpress themes. His two other main projects are ininFX media, which creates marketing solutions for businesses, and The Scottsdale Review, a site dedicated to Scottsdale shopping, dining, events and entertainment.

Nate Whitehill dot Com should be in everyone’s RSS reader. No wonder he has quickly moved up to over 600 subscribers and with the recent publicity he has been receiving through his work for John Chow, I can only foresee more success in the future for the young Mr. Whitehill.
