9 Lies Of Website Sales - Have You Been Fooled?

Buying up small sites and flipping them for a profit is the latest HOT TREND! But are you getting fooled?

Since CareerRamblings sold for $20,000 and NetBusinessSplog sold for $13,000, there are a lot of webmasters out there looking to replicate these remarkable sales and are cashing in on the buzz by offering their own sites for purchase.

Don’t be fooled by the scammers as they try and bump up the price on their pieces of crap sites with outrageous claims! It’s time to break apart their hyperbolic sales pitches and see what the sellers really mean!

1. They say:This site has been under-monetized
Meaning: “I have no idea how to make money with this site”

2. They say:The MyBlogLog community has over 1000 members
Meaning: “The site’s traffic isn’t worth talking about so I’ll try and distract you with meaningless large numbers”

3. They say:The blog is a predicted PR5
Meaning: “The site doesn’t have any real PageRank yet as it was only created last week”

4. They say:The Technorati ranking is already under 5000
Meaning: “All of my incoming links are from link trains”

5. They say:A rare four-letter domain
Meaning: “This domain can’t be pronounced”

6. They say:I’m selling it because I’m too busy with other projects to give it the time that it deserves
Meaning: “I’m working on lots of sites that are better than this one”

7. They say:The blog is in an untapped niche
Meaning: “Nobody is interested in this niche”

8. They say:The site hasn’t been fully publicized
Meaning: “I really have no idea how to promote a website”

9. They say:The domain name alone is worth more than the asking price
Meaning: “The content is so awful it makes the domain name look bad”

Don’t be fooled. When buying a site there is only one thing that you need to know:

How well is the existing traffic converting into cash?

That piece of information alone is enough for you to decide whether the site represents good value or not. If you think that you can improve the conversion - you’ve just discovered one of the easiest ways to make money online!

Great post. I have flipped a few websites on a smaller scale. No matter if the seller is selling a small or large revenue site they all try the same tricks to increase the value. One that I didn’t see on the list is the “10,000 visitors and only launched one day ago” meaning “I bought crappy traffic to inflate my traffic numbers”.

Someone’s gotta cash in on all the people who wanted to buy Dominiche, couldn’t afford it, then decided to set about trying it on their own anyway.

I liked this list even better now than the first time you wrote it :)
