Reader Hate Mail: How You Know You’re Getting Popular
The saying that “it’s lonely at the top” was obviously written by someone who wasn’t at the top because the more money that I make, the more people there are that want to bring me down!
Receiving negative comments and hateful e-mails is a fantastic sign that your site is becoming more popular and a great indicator that there is money to be made. If you’re stirring up people’s emotions and challenging their beliefs - you’re remarkable - and being remarkable means you’re going to make money!
How can people hating you make you money? Well, if everybody “likes” you then you’re average, uninspiring and mediocre. But if you can stir up enough passion to have 90% of people absolutely loathe you, you’ll also be stirring up the type of passion that makes 10% of people love you!
Flame-resistant blogging
Even if only 1% of your feedback is ever negative, as your site gets bigger you’re going to receive more negativity. That negativity is a sign that you’re site is growing - you should look forward to it!
In order to prepare you for what you’re going to receive when you start achieving and exceeding your goals, I thought I’d share with you some wonderful signs of CashQuests’ growth that didn’t seem to make it past the spam filter:
In response to my TNX.net review:
Author definately needs to improve his positions in Google. Mate, you have VERY poor website that has no way of making you any income unless you advertise it on TV. cashquests.com has less than a hundred paget with very low PR, don’t you blame TNX for that.
There are forums, that make thousands of dollars a month, by selling links on over 100K pages … I have a forum and it makes me $1,200/m. via TNX.net
Author, I am very sorry for you and your poor website. Are not going to make any money off any advertising system!
Regards,
Den
Fantastic. I love how this post demonstrates that most of the negativity that you receive will come from people that don’t even read your site. If the author actually had enough brain cells to read the site, he would have realized that the very review he was criticizing was a money maker - and I didn’t even have to advertise on TV. Love it.
Here’s an e-mail that I get in one form or another on an almost daily basis:
Jeffrey Kishner wrote:
You used to be funny, now you seem to just be harsh and totally focused on the bottom line. You’re not a pleasure to read anymore.
This just demonstrates that there are some really, really stupid people out there. The sort of people that visit a “make money online” site and then don’t like that it’s all about profits, greed and the bottom line. These are the same sort of people that go to Disneyland and then complain that it’s “too childish“. What I love about these people is that their sheer stupidity means that despite not liking a site - they keep coming back! You can’t buy that type of loyalty!
There will only be more
As a site grows, the negative feedback will only increase - it will never decrease. The sooner you learn to recognize negative feedback as being a good thing, the sooner you will be able to ignore it and keep yourself focused on the business of making money online!
What do you think? Is negative feedback something you should look forward too? Or should you hunt down and flame everybody that gives you a negative comment?

I can’t say that I actively look forward to negative feedback! I think it’s more a case of, as your popularity grows then so does ALL your your feedback, and the chances are that you will always have a percentage of people that don’t like you for whatever reason so more feedback overall = more negative feedback too.

The reason I’m subscribed to Cash Quests in the first place is because you are “harsh and totally focused on the bottom line.”
Dude, why the heck would I want to read a make-money-online blog that was “delicate and not focused on making money?”
by Contest Blogger
Hehe, does that mean that my 1 week old blog is growing fast??
I also kind of think negative comments/feedback is a sign of growth. Let’s forget about the blogging world for a sec. Think about the celeb world. The more famous a celeb becomes, the more people obsess about them and the more negative comments they get. The same works in blogging.
However, that doesn’t mean you should “love” and “look forward to” negative feedback. Also, negative comments also sometimes serve as contructive criticism…

Negative feedback is definitely a way to judge how well your websites going but one thing I agree with is that cashquests used to be more funny before but hey we all gotta do what rakes in the money…right?
by Abdalla Ahmed
I love the first one, by the way it’s written, the writer of it kinda assumes you’re a man
I’ve had a few negative e-mails. You’ll be surprised how worked up people get with shoddy grammar.

I wish your blog had more restaurant reviews and was filled with pictures of your lunch. Even a newbie to this game knows that is how you make money online. Get with the program and maybe put a picture of a car in your header (cartoon or otherwise). Amateur, sheesh!

I think those “stupid” people just tried too hard to be like you. Instead of providing negative feedback via blog elaborated blog post, they did it through email and comments.

This is a very good post. This reminds all of us that not all people will like what we do and should stay calm when people sends us unpleasant emails. Just think of it as opportunity to grow more as cashquests writes “That negativity is a sign that you’re site is growing - you should look forward to it!”

I guess it is because many are struggling to make money online and they are reading your blog, expecting to help them. Upon seeing how much ur making and the promotion, some feel angry.
I totally agree w/ you though

Here’s some constructive criticism for you. It’s really irritating not being able to navigate to the next or previous post when I visit here from iGoogle. I actually have to go back to iGoogle and click on your other posts to get to them, or go to your homepage and scroll, scroll, scroll.
Come on Kumiko, it won’t take you more than five minutes to Google “Bob’s Simplistic Navigation”, download and install the plugin.

I’m glad that Abdalla agrees with my assessment. There are many problogging blogs out there. Regardless of your ability to make money, your online persona has an impact on the type of reader you will retain. For example, Darren Rowse just comes across as a Nice Guy, even if he does at times come down hard when a boundary has to be set. I get negative feedback at times as well, and it is easy to be defensive, but oftentimes feedback has a nugget of truth that should be acknowledged.

well, i’m getting some funny n negative comments in my blog… i did tell myself that’s growth

Hey, haters are still traffic.
There’s a Chinese saying that literally translates to “if nobody is envious of you, then you are mediocre at best”. I think that sums it up pretty well.

Yeah I believe that negative feedback means that you’re becoming famous, but then again (but it’s only me maybe) - don’t those make you feel bad? I mean, if I woke up, turn on my PC and first thing - read negative feedback about my sites, gosh, it makes me feel really bad and sad…

Negative feedback is good so long as you get at least some positive feedback too. Getting hate mail can be totally soul-destroying though. There are times when it’s made me seriously check myself, but after receiving enough of it, I learned that you will never please everyone.
When it gets really personal, though — that’s when it hurts the most, because people assume they know you from what you write.

I think it’s the same in the online as the offline world; the more controversial you are, the more people there are that can’t stand you. At the same time, you’ll find people that love you more and more each time you interact with them.
That being said, criticism can be hard to take in any world
by jackbravo
Also, calling any of your readers “stupid” can actually cast you in a negative light. Not everybody has your insight.
by Angel
what puzzles me is why “stupid” people love to read your blog?!
by kher Cheng Guan
i love negative points from my readers cause it gives me a chance to improve but i don’t mine having some advertising for those who want to speak bad of me..
by Etienne Teo
You make very good and valid points here. There was actually a business book highlighted on CNBC once called “You’re Nobody Til Somebody Hates You”, implying that once you start to become big you’re gonna have your share of haters..Great points..

Love this post
I used to hate getting criticised. Then I became a soccer referee .. and learnt to laugh. Not in a ‘hahaha im crying inside and pretending to laugh’ way but in a ‘that’s genuinely amusing and makes my day more interesting’ kind of way.
I criticised a website once. The owner got my details from WhoIs and called me up threatening to sue me. I told him to stick his lawsuit (I knew he was just BSing) and within 30 mins put a massive thing on my front page saying that this website had threatened to sue me.
This lasted a week and got mentioned on a few other sites… Loved every minute of it.
Enjoy the hate

Well, you can’t please everyone!
As your popularity grows, you’ll encounter every people of all sizes and shapes, from all walks of life and from all over the globe. So the temperament can really vary. You just have to always keep your cool!
by Aurelius Tjin
While it’s not fun to receive negative feedback, I think the writing style does contribute to the amount of hate comments you get. Your harsh critiques may be contributing to that…. but it does make you popular too. Because controversy always works.
by Ades
I think I agree with Kumiko…

Negative comment show that your blog is popular..
You are totally evil Kumiko…
I love you.. Huargh
