Reality Wired - Adventures In Dudeism

James, who runs the blog Reality Wired, comes across as being a pretty cool and laidback dude. I know that the word “dude” is a bit early 1990’s and calling him a “dude” could probably be taken as calling him “outdated”, but that’s not what I mean at all. It’s just that as I started to read through his blog, I quickly gained the impression that what I would find would be open, honest and fun – and that’s what I mean by the word “dude”….not that he’s some pizza eating ninja turtle!

But enough with the definition of “dude”! James ordered this ReviewMe review of Reality Wired as John Chow’s site was just a little out of his price range and my bargain reviews looked “just as good”. See what I mean by the honesty? What a dude! He even writes in his ‘About’ page:

“The internet is full of money making ideas, schemes and scams, the hope is that you enjoy the blog and if some insight I have helps you to further your online money making goals and escape the everyday toil at the cube farm, then so much the better.”

That’s a pretty hype-free and honest blurb!

So what’s this dude’s blog about?

Reality Wired is James’ first attempt at blogging and if I had to label it’s niche, I’d say it comes under the “blog written by someone who is making money online” category. But who wants to be labeled, right?

James is making money online through a number of monetized websites that he runs and while he gives links to these sites, he doesn’t write a lot about his strategies with these sites specifically. His posts are not of the “I’ll help you make money online” nature but more of the “Here’s what I think about this way to make money” breed. Considering that he’s actually using a lot of these programs to make a fair amount of money, a lot of his posts are insightful ventures into the inner workings of the programs.

He’s even written a whole series related to how he’d improve Adsense:

  1. How Would You Improve Google’s Adsense Program?
  2. My Adsense Improvements: Publishers As Referrals
  3. My Adsense Improvements: Transparent Backgrounds
  4. My Adsense Improvements: Keyword Performance
  5. My Adsense Improvements: Keyword Filtering
  6. My Adsense Improvements: Ad Targeting
  7. My Adsense Improvements: Approval Of Individual Sites

Even though he’s making a fair amount of money online, it’s not all about the almighty dollar. His ‘Rants and Raves’ category is rather small, but contains some absolutely fantastic and highly original pieces of blogging. Being someone who used to hang out on a lot of Adsense forums, I found his post entitled ‘The Most Annoying Adsense Questions Ever’ to not only be hilarious but right on the money! Seriously, just by asking these question you’re cutting your earnings in half.

James also occasionally writes in a more personal nature and while I’m not the biggest fan of personal posts, I found his to be rather original and refreshing. It’s not often you read about bloggers playing golf with Michael Jordan and Tiger Woods!

Ok…I exaggerated…he just watched them play. But he did recently use his Adsense earnings to pay for a large percentage of his new car! If Adsense ever paid me, I would have been lucky to buy a new car radio!

Does the dude’s blog rock?

While Reality Wired contains a small amount of Adsense and a few affiliate buttons, it’s by no means intrusive and the blog maintains a nice, clean style. With almost daily posts, the blog’s readership appears to be growing nicely and this combined with the fact that it’s an interesting read makes me believe that this blog will have quite a bright future.

I don’t like to criticize blogs too much as at the end of the day the blogger should be free to write and do whatever they like – that’s the beauty of blogging – but I have to say that the ‘winding road’ header at the top of the site gave me a little motion sickness! Feeling motion sickness while sitting at your desk in front of your computer is an interesting experience, but I think I’d much prefer a ‘straight road’ header!

Reality Wired
is a blog to watch and James has definitely fulfilled his ‘About’ page blurb by being insightful and a great escape from the cube farm. Rock on dude!

I was wondering how a header could give you motion sickness. It’s not that bad, but it could be better.

James - I’m not sure how it happened either! You’re right, it’s not bad but perhaps something that reflects your site a bit more would be better.

Wrong James.. lol

First, great review, thank you for taking the time to do that. The header, well, it was cool at the time and was intended to be “different” although not in any specific way. At some point I do intend to change it, but so far haven’t had any creative “epiphanies” yet, so I’ve just left it. Usually, once I start changing, I tend to change, change, change and that’s not always a good thing. I’m open to suggestions though.

crazy4bass - Haha! Just too many James!! It is definitely a different type of header. Blogs are all about change and never perfection!
