Someone Is Making Money From Joetheplumber.com
Joe the Plumber, after he went ‘toe-to-toe’ with Obama, then got his video plastered on YouTube, I could almost see the dollar signs light up. The dollar signs got even bigger after Joe The Plumber was mentioned 15 times during the presidential debate last night. Political rhetoric and opinion aside, let’s look at the aftermath of ‘Joe the Plumber’ in the internet world.
Joetheplumber.com is as of now a site about ‘plumbing’. It is owned by a plumber living in Amarillo, Texas. The site has places to procure an estimate, list of services available, and means to contact Joe. Pretty standard fare for a services site. After the past two days we can expect that the site, and Joe the Plumber of Amarillo will never be the same.
The actual man can probably expect to see figures in the six figures, as evidenced by a Jason Lee Miller article.
What I find even more interesting is what will the site become? Will it be a spoof site, with videos mocking McCain, and his mention of Joe The Plumber during the debate? Or perhaps someone will buy the site to mock Obama’s ‘free giving’ attitude towards taxes. More than likely though, someone will use it as a site to sell ‘Joe the Plumber’ T-shirts (my idea, wish I had the money).
Should this be a lesson that purchasing domains can turn into profit later on? Yes, and no. You really can’t argue with proof, but does this lone incident really prove that investing in a slew of domains will garner you wages later on? To me this is like playing the stock market. Your money should be going towards safe investments, that will wield income more steadily and further down the road. More so then playing the lottery and hoping to god someone references, dirtypigs.com. Which incidentally is already owned.
