That’s Not Controversy…THIS Is Controversy
If you want to make money online - there’s no doubt that you’re going to need to stand out and be remarkable. And one of the most effective ways to show the world that you exist is to create a little controversy!
Unfortunately…most people suck at it
One thing that you’ll repeatedly see as new bloggers try to make their mark is the use of the abusive or insulting post to get people’s attention. Usually this results in a bit of a backlash in their direction which inevitably leads to most or them backing down and making the feeble excuse of “Hey, I didn’t mean it! I was just trying to create a little controversy to get some traffic!”
That’s not controversy…that’s just being abusive and insulting and not even meaning it.
Congratulations! You’re a lying maggot and I’ll never read your site again.
This is controversy
True controversy comes from having an opinion that is against what others believe and BEING ABLE TO SUPPORT YOUR OPINION.
Just writing “X sucks!” doesn’t create controversy but writing “X sucks because….” and actually having a decent argument with valid points will create controversy.
You have to believe it
When you create controversy, you’re going to get heat from those who disagree. That’s what controversy is all about and you should embrace it. Backing down and saying “I was just doing it to create controversy” just shows you to be a liar who lacks integrity and probably isn’t deserving of a place on this earth.
If you receive backlash from your controversial statements, the only justifiable response is to defend your position and continue to state why you believe that you are correct. It’s your opinion - defend it!
Make money with controversyControversy = traffic. There’s no denying it. The great thing about controversy is that it goes against the norm and by it’s very definition is going to provide a different point of view.
That’s originality. That’s being remarkable.
Can you flip it into cash? Absolutely.
Steve Jobs had a public war of words with Dell Computer CEO Michael Dell, starting when Jobs first criticized Dell for making “un-innovative beige boxes.” On October 6, 1997, when Michael Dell was asked what he would do if he owned then-troubled Apple Computer, he said “I’d shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders.” In 2006, Steve Jobs sent an email to all employees when Apple’s market cap rose above Dell’s. The email read:
“Team, it turned out that Michael Dell wasn’t perfect at predicting the future. Based on today’s stock market close, Apple is worth more than Dell. Stocks go up and down, and things may be different tomorrow, but I thought it was worth a moment of reflection today. Steve” Source
A few controversial comments created publicity that would otherwise cost millions. And the more people that see you, the more money you will make.
