make money online

The Day AGLOCO Died

AGLOCO is a dead program now….only a mindless zombie would sign up after their latest news.

agloco.jpg

AGLOCO launched way back in 2006 with massive hype and promotion that quickly saw it become one of the most publicized programs in recent history that promised to help you “make money online“.

The concept was simple - you install an advertising bar on your computer and AGLOCO will pass some of the revenue that they earn from the ads on to you.

By launching with a referral program and hype about members being given shares in the company, many websites suddenly became filled with banners and posts promoting them.

Fortunately, the hype has died down a lot since the initial rush due to their failure to pay, management inefficiency and unexplained delays….and now they are virtually dead.

AGLOCO operates at a loss

After almost a year of waiting, their latest splog entry finally outlines the financial status of the company and member distributions. Let’s take a look:

“During the last three months, June, July and August, AGLOCO lost slightly more than $100,000….The AGLOCO losses are getting smaller each month and at this point, we anticipate the September loss will be $10,000 to $15,000.”

They’ve already lost over $100,000! And they’re still losing money!! Where has the money gone? They say that it has gone to their member services and technical team…but $100,000!?

homeless.jpg

What you need to keep in mind here is that the Viewbar has been launched - it is nearly “all systems go” for the company - and they’re still losing money. There isn’t any revolutionary new product coming out as they’ve released the Viewbar and that’s all they’ve got.

Considering that they have implied that members won’t be paid until they have enough profit (and I’d say paid back the $100,000 too), you can pretty much give up on any hope of ever receiving money from AGLOCO.

AGLOCO will pay you over 10 years

Even if they do decide to pay, they’ve finally outlined how much you’ll get:

monthly payments which will be made for hours earned each month and paid monthly for 10 years. The following rates have been set (amounts are expressed in US currency):

• June $0.48 per hour - ($0.0040 per month for 120 months)
• July $0.42 per hour - ($0.0035 per month for 120 months)
• August $0.54 per hour - ($0.0045 per month for 120 months)

They’re going to pay you over 10 years!!! WTF!? Even I didn’t see this one coming but this is the nail in the coffin. For all those referral hours you earned when your referrals used the Viewbar, AGLOCO will finish paying you in 2017! What a joke!

Even if you’re the #1 AGLOCO referrer in the world, I doubt you’d crack $80 per month with those payments and if you’re at that level you’ve definitely spent more than $80 worth of your time and website space promoting them. For most regular members, you’d be lucky if you can buy a coffee.

aglococoffee.jpg

If you can buy a coffee - enjoy it while it lasts - because inflation is a b*tch and that $0.0045 per month that you’re getting now is going to be worth about $0.00000045 in 2017!

Still think you’re making money? If you want to get paid by check, you need a minimum of $100. You do the math on how many hours you need at $0.0045 per hour to get paid!

It gets even worse

Just when you thought that it couldn’t get any worse for AGLOCO members all the payments they’ve outlined will only occur IF their agreement with Ask.com is successful and IF they can actually turn a profit.

It’s not looking good for either situations.

Rest in peace

I’ve spent a lot of time on CashQuests this year dissecting and criticizing the AGLOCO business model and why it won’t work. Many have argued that since it doesn’t cost you anything that it is zero-risk and that you’ve got nothing to lose.

aglocograve.jpg

However, to get a decent amount of referrals in your network you would have had to have spent your time promoting them. That time is gone forever and could have been spent promoting something more viable.

The lies they told wasted a lot of people’s time.

And spare a thought for those who were really sucked in and spent money on AdWords campaigns!

With the latest news, I really don’t see the point in writing about them anymore. It’s pretty obvious that they’re dead and buried so anybody who spends time promoting them now really deserves to have their time wasted. It’s been fun, but they’re not worth it any more.

Just one final message to AGLOCO:

I’m not sure they were ever alive.

to be fair, most VC’s and Angels look for a 3 yr return so it shouldn’t be surprising that Agloco isn’t turning a profit yet.

I’ve always thought the viewbar to be a crappy idea. There are a lot better ways to harness the power of that many people to make more than a few dollars a decade

I’m glad there’s someone posting about how terrible this program is. Now if only someone would post about the “Million (insert currency here) Wiki’s” and how these overnight fads will flop too I can be at peace with the universe

You know this is reminding me of NOVA’s current situation. Anyone living in Japan will know what I’m talking about. When a company stops paying people, it’s time to get out!

by Brad

At this point, Agloco had it all, hype, referrals out the A-hole, and free marketing. Give some people the keys to the wealth, fame, and fortune, and they still end up homeless.

I would have liked to have seen a company like this run by a team of monkeys. It probably would have done better.

by J.R.

Excellent assessment. Put in the hands of competent people, all of those referrals could be very valuable.

by Matt Robison

Even their #1 user (John Chow) has stopped talking about them…

they are indeed a walking dead man…

by Rea Maor

Not only a waste of valuable time for the referrers, but it’s yet another knock the the precious world of pyramid marketing businesses (scams).

My mom will never trust me again!

The next time I tell her she’s going to be rich just by surfing the net, she’ll just walk away!

PS - Pretty sad what these fools did with however million people signed up. Just imagine if every one of them gave a dollar…

Wow nice post about Agloco. I have nothing to say to help Agloco. Yeah it seems that a lot of people have stopped promoting Agloco now. I was really hoping we get back to the AllAdvantage days, where I can see my earnings increase every hour I check my AllAdvantage account.

They are taking really big risk. I hope they can still come back. It would be a lot better if they could just make the viewbar intergrated into the browser. I hate seeing extra stuff on my desktop.

How bad was their business model if they couldn’t make $100k with a few months of advertising to millions of people?

If they’re losing money, why were they even offering technical support? Their support should have been nothing more than phpBB forum where users can help each other.

When they declare bankruptcy and liquidate the company, someone will be able to buy the brand, user base, and source code for a few thousand dollars, re-launch, and be able to turn a profit almost immediately.

My theory was right. I knew they were never going to pay. Everyone was just promoting their website for them. I never understood why so many people would back up a program that they never received a penny from.

by Ginene

After one month looking at what they were doing back then, I already felt they were going nowhere. Spending so much time developing a model (and you wonder if they were actually doing -anything-) and asking the world to be patient and STILL operating at a loss? I never agreed that there was no risk using and promoting it - time is money.

Hm.. R.I.P Agloco..
I will throw the banner from my site…

drop agloco, and you will be rich…

I wonder when John Chow will write his update on AGLOCO. He was a huge supporter of it, and how it’s dead. I wonder if he’ll admit that he was wrong. :P

Great writeup btw.

Ten years? I’ll be surfing on the BIG INTERNET in the SKY by then, who knows?!!

I pointed out a number of times that there’s a reason two Florida attorneys (principles od AGLOCO) would base their company in Hong Kong …and that reason might be that the consumer protection laws of China … especially statements that would gte you thrown in jail in the US … such as “sign up and you’ll become an owner” … are leagl … so the vast majority of participants ahve no legal resource because if they read the TOS they agreed to be bound only by the laws of the People’s Republic of China … not their own country.

As far as John Chow making a mistake? He certainly did not .. he’s explained a number of times that the traffic he has received from his AGLOCO activities have netted him a substantial profit … they can close tomorrow and John will have still made a bundle … and John, to his credit, never expressed much belief that AGLOCO would ever make much if anything for individual surfers. It’s too bad so many people who rush to copy what John does don’t read his posts about why he does it.

I’m glad I never promoted them. Somehow I knew this would bomb.

the fact that agloco wasnt able to leverage that massive memberbse does not bode well for their management team. You give me 1 million users and I will be making hundred of thousands of dollars by the end of month 1.

Well… I’m now getting my posts deleted over at the Official Agloco blog for stating the facts and pointing out their deception and flaws. I think as so called owners of the company we members should be able to point out these things. I guess this site is now my only alternative for expressing my views.

I thought this was one of my best posts that they deleted. Do you see anything wrong with it? This just pisses me off…

post:

John Powell said,

I have read these posts and its clear to me that a lot of people
in this blog want to destroy Agloco, like John, Why because they
are get paid by the big boys, to close Agloco down.

For someone on about making money, you wasting a lot of time
posting to this blog. You have 13 posts in this one post by Agloco.

Why John ?

John P,

Don’t kill the messenger, I’m just speaking the truth about their stupid plan. If you think that one person talking about the facts and flaws of agloco can destroy them then there must be some truth in what I’m saying and members can see it. If agloco saw it maybe they would reverse the direction they are going. But as Klingler said (as if it’s a good thing) they are not listening to what the members think.

As for you thinking I’m working for the big guys; you must be a conspiracy theorist. That is very funny. It’s not the case, I’m just like Valerie, a member that is tired of agloco’s BS they throw at us. They act like we are pigeons that they are throwing some feed at and we should be happy with it. They have forgotten WE ARE AGLOCO, without their members they are nothing. Anyway, the big guys don’t care about agloco. Agloco has 1 million, with only 10% using the bar. How many members do you think google and yahoo have, I bet it’s a little more than agloco. Facebook has more active members than agloco in one city or college. Agloco is a spec in the internet universe and they will stay that way unless they get their act together.

I was a believer in agloco and if they change and become what they say they are on their site, I will be again. They are at this time a deceptive company and I can’t represent that and I don’t know how anyone with a conscious could. They have shown that they are not the “make money to use the viewbar” company they advertise. As I see it there is a fundamental flaw (or deception) with agloco. I don’t see how they will ever satisfy there “base” which is the average user with a few referrals. And if those members don’t ever get any real money that deception and is the equivalent to a pyramid scheme. The bottom never gets money it only feeds the top. And the real top is the development team. If agloco can give me a definitive answer as to how they will satisfy their base I will reconsider promoting them.

The only reason Klingler and all the other kool aid drinkers are always painting a beautiful picture of agloco is because they want to be part of the top of agloco. The top that screws the bottom, they are so selfish in their motivation. I’m not like that, if the average user is going to get nothing, I don’t want to have anything to do with it. And it’s short sighted to think you can manipulate the masses, Agloco is dead without the average user being happy, there is no way around it. It’s a fact. Stop drinking the cool aid and move on. Unless that is agloco has an answer for this most fundamental question.

I have always defended agloco on my blog but I must admit that Kumiko was right all along.

It’s diffucult to admit you were wrong when you have been defending it really hard by replying to Kumiko’s posts with the same vigor.

However check my blog to see my thoughts on the subject.

That is disgusting. I figured it would bomb as their “company owned by its members” didn’t make sense when one person handled the domain, assets, costs, and clearly the profits. I only wasted 5 hours of running the viewbar, but I feel sorry for those that were more dedicated to the program.

In a perfect world it would work… too bad we don’t have one.

by Word Hugger

I’m done with AGLOCO.

This 10 years thing is too much. It’s a joke, to say the least.

Kumiko was right, I was wrong. Simple as that.
