Who Wants An Ad On John Chow For $5?

*Use coupon code ‘holidays’ to get 15% off your order - October only!*

Last month I cashed in on the new theme at popular blog John Chow dot com and bought three post level ads on what are possibly the most popular posts on his site. Let’s look at it worked to increase traffic and make money online!

The ads were bought through Text Link Ads and the first month of display ran from 22nd August - 22nd September 2007. By taking advantage of Text Link Ad’s august promotion, I was able to purchase all three links for the grand total of $17. I bought ads on the posts:

What the ads looked like

These ads are all on high PageRank pages and the ads were worded to encourage a high amount of clicks to CashQuests.com. For example, the post on ‘The Internet’s Biggest Google Whores’ discusses those who are making the most money from Adsense so at the bottom of the post it seemed logical to create an ad that would appear to continue (or even surpass) the original post. The ad appeared as:

Why I chose those pages

When John Chow launched the new theme, these posts were part of the “Popular Articles” section on the site. With a new theme and prominent positioning, it was obvious that the posts were going to get a mountain of traffic. They have since been replaced with posts which (not surprisingly) promote an affiliate program in one way or another.

It’s a smart move by Mr Chow to put profitable posts in that section but as the posts that I bought ads on were in the popular section as soon as the theme launched, I predict that they are the “true” most popular articles on the site - most likely based on pageviews - and represent the posts with the highest amount of traffic.

Where the ads linked to

John Chow wrote about my purchase of the ads here but what he wisely neglected to mention was that the ads didn’t point to the CashQuests.com homepage but pointed to a separate sub-page on CashQuests which works as a sales page for Text Link Ads.

With the traffic that came from the ads, my expenses were recovered quite quickly

Once expenses were covered, I changed the links to point directly to the CashQuests.com home page in order to convert visitors into readers. In the end, I believe this is exponentially more profitable than quick affiliate sales.

How much traffic was received

Using Google Analytics, I was able to track the traffic that was received from John Chow dot com:

The links from the purchased ads have been highlighted and you can see that for the month, I received a total of 752 unique visits from the ads!

Not highlighted is the traffic that came via the front page through general links in posts or via my comments on the site. In total, John Chow sent me over 1,200 visitors during the period. Thank you Mr Chow!

That’s so f****ing cheap!

The 752 visitors were received for just $17 which works out to an amazing 2.26 cents per click!! You’d struggle to find a better cost-per-click anywhere online!

When you also consider that pointing the ads initially to a sales page completely covered the advertising purchase, it was a very profitable venture!

It gets even better when you consider that Zac Johnson paid $400 for his button ad and paid $0.20 per click over the same period.

Jump on board

If you’re interested in increasing your traffic at rock-bottom prices, you’d be wise to purchase post level text link ads on John Chow dot com as there are still many popular posts available for purchase.

Prices range from $5-$10 and are definitely the cheapest way to increase your traffic!

As an October promotion, use the coupon code holidays and you’ll receive 15% off all new orders for the life of your order. Click here to get your link on John Chow dot com! (you’ll need to be logged in to your free Text Link Ads account to view his ad inventory)

Hi,

Where exactly are those “post level ads” placed?….Are they the ones at the end of the post, or at the top “where he used to place adsense”?

by Roseate

Those would be the ads at the end of the post.

Looks like CashQuests is hunting again for the best posts on John’s blog. And if history repeats it’s self, John will blog again about it.

Good for you.
