Wordpress Wins The Blogging War
I’ve taken the plunge and switched over to Wordpress for this website. Notes on the installation include:
- Not easy.
- Not fun.
- Time consuming.
- Imported the old site better than I thought.
- Looks good.
- Most things are better than Blogger. But definitely not all.
- Much more to do.
It’s been a sleepless night and so far the switchover has taken about 17 hours. However, most of that time has been spent getting the site looking like the old one and not like every other site using this theme. Time has also been spent installing plugins and making sure everything works before dropping Blogger.
This site is not compatible with the AGLOCO toolbar.

Welcome back … to the good side
Now, you will have access to a lot of nice plugins to play with
Glad the transfer of posts was ok
Note: the categories are missing in the sidebar unless it’s on purpose.
by Steve's Tech Blog
I’m working on reorganizing the categories. For now, you’ll have to survive on my archives!
by Princess Kumiko
Good luck with WP, Princess!
I’ll be missing your “all the cool kids are using blogger” phrase.
What’s up with that Kumiko’s Journal on your blogspot domain?
by Blog About Money Online
hmm…the header image is also missing, or is it just me? The setup is nice…to bad you used the mistylook theme…expected something more stylish from you…and btw princess is the name i call my girlfriend…
by TheAnand
I’ll look into it. Misty is a nice theme and I like it, but I agree that it could be more stylish. Unfortunately, it’s the most suitable for what I need on this site!
by Princess Kumiko
I just mailed you a few wordpress plugins details….hope you find them interesting….
by TheAnand
It’s good to use Wordpress. lots of plugins to make your life easier
And easier for me to comment, haha!
by chee kui
true, Wordpress is the easiest blogging platform
by Blogging with Desi Baba
This is a welcome surprise! The commenting system on Blogger was a huge turn-off before, and you’ll probably see even more people contribute now. Will you be joining the DoFollowers anytime soon?
by Spud Oregon
The commenting system was one of the main reasons for the change. It’s just impossible to reply to individual comments on blogger once you’ve got more than 5. I’m considering DoFollow and it’s on my list, but for now there’s the Top Commentators list for some backlink love!
by Princess Kumiko
well.. i’ve made a little hack to my blogger blog. how do you think? even it doesn’t have a “reply to this comment” system, at least it makes readers easier to leave a comment
but like i said, i think, if i’ve found a great web hosting, i’ll change to wp too :p
by Jack Book
oops.. and sorry if i’m like spamming here, but do you think it’s cool to have Myavatars under the comment date like that, or it’s just because you aren’t finish yet modifying your theme?
i think floated right is better.
by Jack Book
I am using something more useful than the no follow…it will only increase spam comments like mine all over your blog! try using the one I am using…
by TheAnand
excuse me again, but the top commentators plugin seems not to be showing links to the site…..all my spamming efforts gone vain? lolz.
by TheAnand
They should be there now. Comments without a link are from comments imported from Blogger
by Princess Kumiko
Give it time, she is not ready for all those new things. You are right, the blogger was not “commenter” friendly.
P.S.
I’m a DoFollowers now. I just put a graphic to show it better.
by Steve's Tech Blog
You’re right! I’ve still got a lot of things to work on! The blogger blog took about 4 months before I was “happy” and this is a lot more complicated!
by Princess Kumiko
Nice progress kumiko. i really like it.
would you tell us where this blog is hosted? because i still can’t found a good web hosting that i really trust.
and this your blog loads pretty fast. may i know where is it? thanks
by Jack Book
Hi Kumiko,
Your site looks great now
not that it wasn’t before, but now it is excellent, Plus the more features you got from wordpress.
I think I was right when I said - you are taking John Chow’s steps in making money online
who isn’t!
Good luck,
Roseate
by Roseate - Internet Business Promotion And Opportunities
I don’t know if I’m following in his footsteps or he’s following mine! Haha! Just kidding John!
by Princess Kumiko
You’re wrong. Not everyone is following John Chow. John’s method is not the only way to make money online,
by Blogging with Desi Baba
so now the old blog, kumikosuzuki.blogspot.com is back.
but why we can’t leave a comment there Miss K?
or that blog would be special for payperpost only?
if you decided to open the commenting system again, would you please let us to leave a comment on the same page with the post page like this? thanks Miss K
*i think i should collect all my comments first before i decided to click the add comment button. sorry i really don’t mean to do spamming here.
it’s because i wanna leave a comment on your old blog, but i can’t*
*oh i like calling you Miss K so much
by Jack Book
Hahaha! maybe he is also following your! ….what is obvious is that he is a fan of you (as you are a fan of him!) …he mentioned you several times in his blog
…he should have seen himself (when he started his blog) in you!
by Roseate - Internet Business Promotion And Opportunities
Trust me Kumiko, you will learn to like Wordpress in the long run. Just email me and I’ll be happy to help you out. I’ve went through your troubles
by Albert
Yay, Kumiko! A few days ago (give or take a little) I decided I couldn’t put up with Blogger anymore, and I made the switch to Wordpress. It was a shock coming to your blog and seeing you’re on Wordpress too, but it was a fantastic choice. I’m really happy that I switched as well
Good luck with everything!
by Tay
Thank God. I usually navigate right away from blogger sites, but I’ve endured it enough to read yours. Now I can read your blog in peace. This layout looks 100x sexier on wordpress IMO.
I did the dofollow thing too…not that it really matters…
by Cody
Yay! Welcome to the WordPress family! I’ve been using it since 1.5 and loved it ever since. Can’t imagine using anything else. It just keeps on getting better.
by Jonathan Franzone
WordPress sucks! I don’t like it at all; as a PHP programmer myself, it feels to me to be incredibly hacky and inflexible. The script I use, Serendipity, is occasionally buggy, but at least it was written using good coding practices. Maybe I’m just whining about things that non-programmers couldn’t appreciate, though…
WordPress is like Windows; just because it’s the most popular doesn’t mean it’s the best.
by Garrett Albright
Looks good… I need to get some custom banner love.
by A Tentative Personal Finance Blog
Hi, Kumiko. Congratulations, things are looking pretty good already. Why did you switch? Somebody once said, Happy customizing! Remember, Wordpress is for old school bloggers who find the internet strange and scary. All the cool kids are using Blogger!
Seriously, after using several CMS platforms on various sites, I’ve migrated everything to WordPress. It is lacking a bit in some areas but it just seems to work out better. Plugins, friendly admin area, etc.
Enjoy WP!

by bill weaver
I think kumiko’s mean in wordpress.com not wordpress in self hosting.
wordpress in self hosting is also about customizing. just want to let you remember guys. this is not the first time kumiko use wordpress. she has bloginterview.net remember?
oh btw Miss Kumiko,
it’s your bloginterview.net. i think there’s still something need some configuration there. if you access bloginterview.net, it’s fine. no problem. but if you’re trying to access it through http://www.bloginterview.net. there will be a problem. i know it’s probably not important, but there are old school internet-ers out there who don’t know that they can go to a site by simlpy type the domain and ctrl + enter.
thanks
by Jack Book
Actually bloginterview was 100% Blogger, not wordpress. The site has been moved and is just a domain now anyway. Thanks for letting me know it’s status!
by Princess Kumiko
Not another misty theme…come on Kumiko, surely someone as creative and daring as yourself can come up with a better look? Or is this you going the safe way?
by Bob
I know!! Everyone uses Misty!! I don’t know a thing about Wordpress templates yet, but I’ll be working on it and improving it as time goes on. My final Blogger template was about the 5th version that I used for the site. It’s all a work in progress
For now, it was all about getting on wordpress ASAP. The customizing and creativity will come with time!
by Princess Kumiko
Fantastic! Actual, working interface for the comments. Good work. Also the new theme looks alittle better in the contrast department, which, yo’ll remeber, I swuaked about before… old eyes perhaps, but hard to rad none the less.
I know there’s some work involved with getting to know WordPress but you will certainly be gald you made the move. If not for any other reason, consider that the same guys (Google) who arbitrarily cancelled you out of AdSense are also fully capable of shuttung off a Blogger blog … at a whim, since you are just a free user … this is amuch better mive for longevity. Best of luck.
by Dave Starr --- ROI Guy
Thanks Dave! I knew you’d be happy!
The banning part is quite interesting. I’ve often held back a little with some of my comments about Google just in case they decided to “accidently” delete me. I’m sure that I’m pretty insignificant to them, but it’s not worth the risk of having everything deleted.
Backing up is my new hobbby!
by Princess Kumiko
Glad to see you step away from the dark side!
The site does look good; it can only get better in time.
Congrats!

I know what you mean. I had planned to download WP and start my transfer over and have everything ready when I got my domain and own hosting setup. Couldn’t get past the WP set-up, and at that time didn’t have the nerves to figure it out. Maybe some weekend while I”m wasted…
by Desty
You should do a pro vs. con list for Blogger and Wordpress. It would be really helpful for those of us that are just starting out and unsure of which platform to use.
by SavingDiva
wondered where you’d gone…
welcome back, it’s looking good
by Steve
wow.. a really nice avatar you have there
by Jack Book
I’ve just realised, you’ve become royalty…. congrats Princess kumiko
by Steve
Shame this blog isn’t Agloco ompatible.
How on earth will your readers become millionaires
LOL
by Steve
Sheesh, you say WP install is hard? The reason is, you’ve been pampered by Blogger’s one-click publishing(I were, too, until I moved my blog to WP)
In WP, you have to take care of the admin side+server side. And that’s where the trouble comes in. Luckily I’ve got an expert on my side. Don’t you have one?
by TechZilo
Wordpress is a snap to install not sure why you had so many problems. As soon as I got hosting Wordpress was installed and I’ve been working with it ever since, I wouldn’t use anything else in fact.
by Lazy Blogger Tips
I think SavingDiva has a good idea. You should compare Blogger and Wordpress. It would be an interesting read.
Good luck with Wordpress.
Regards,
by Sofcore
Welcome to Wordpress! Your blog is looking really good, nice work!
by Erik Karey
Kumiko, the site looks MUCH better with Wordpress. Good job.
by Romantic Ideas
Nice move Kumiko! You are now 1 step closer to becoming the Blogosphere’s Next Top Blogger
by Joshua
Can anybody explain to newbie girl what means: this blog isn’t Agloco compatible?
And welcome to WP, Kumiko, I believe You WILL love it!!!
by Inga Oz
Nice! The blog looks unique and neat.
by Blogging with Desi Baba
Congrats on making the switch. I guess I’m still stuck with blogspot.
I guess its not that bad considering I’m just 2 days old.
by Shypy
@Shypy:
yes… but if you even thinking about switching to WP, then faster you do this, better for you (your readers, page ranks and so and so…)
by Inga Oz
NOT EASY???
Give me a break, Wordpress is so easy to install and manage!
Well of course, if you compare to a subscription-based blog service, then it’s not.. but that’s how all self-hosted blogs are like.
by Jeff Kee
Install wordpress was easy, importing my blog from Blogger was a lot harder!
by Princess Kumiko
i’m not surprise you chose wordpress and this theme as you’ve been a hard-core fan of john dot com
… expect more similiarities with john’s … i can see you’re trying very hard not to copy from john’s but it’ll be a great challenge though …
by StockTube
Kumiko. Since you like PINK so much, you should give PINK theme a try:
http://www.evsionlab.com/2007/03/19/pink-wordpress-theme/
by Eugene
I agree! This is a great move!
by Joni
Let me know if you cant download the theme Kumiko.
by Eugene
Shame, I’m on the commentators list but no link to my name.
I wonder why not?
by Steve
I think there’s an issue with comments that were imported from Blogger. I’m sure it will appear in time.
by Princess Kumiko
Oh, wordpress is kinda cool. But I no $$ to pay for monthly hosting, so i guess just need to stick with free one by blogger.
by Nicholas
Awww…and you were my one and only supporter to host my domain on blogger’s FREE platform. Now, you’ve gone & migrated
by Blogs Do Make Money
The site looks good! Smart move!
by Storm Chaser Videographer
woo hoo! Glad you have wordpress now. So much easier to comment
And I hated the blogger popups.
by Goddess Carlie
hey you won’t see any popup on my blogger blog
instead, you’ll feel home there
by Jack Books
I loooove Wordpress. *=) Welcome to the club.
